World cafe AI: a scaffolding approach for deep learning with tourism management students.

This presentation describes a collaborative project between researchers and students in a tourism education programme, using a World Café approach to enhance deep learning. Constructivist and scaffolding theories framed the inquiry into how tourism students learn most effectively using AI. In the World Café setting, small groups of students rotated through discussion stations focused on key themes in a group task, where AI was used as part of the activity. Notes were taken and insights were identified, which were then analysed using qualitative methods. Preliminary thematic analysis suggests that the AI combined with the World Café methodology fostered a deeper learning of tourism concepts, enriched perspective-taking, and enabled co-creation of knowledge.
