The Potential of Generative AI in Literature Searching.
Ian Clark and Kelly Travers
University of East London
The emergence of generative AI provides new opportunities to help students conduct effective research and facilitate a more efficient discovery of relevant literature. However, an awareness of the human-made weaknesses built into AI tools will be vital in ensuring its outputs are carefully considered before the technology is incorporated into search strategies.
During the session we will demonstrate the potential effectiveness of current generative AI tools, as well as provide a critical perspective on how they are constructed and highlight concerns over incorporating them into existing literature searching workflows. We will explore a number of tools available that use generative AI and that can enhance the search process.
To understand the evolving perspectives of the learning and teaching community, we will measure the stance of participants in the incorporation of generative AI into literature searching processes both before and after the presentation.
