University graduates are crucial to solving problems and increasing future growth in industry.
This presentation highlights a powerful collaborative initiative between the School of Health, Sports, and Bioscience (HSB) and Careers and Student Enterprise (CASE), designed to elevate the career preparedness of UEL Bioscience students by bridging the gap between education and employment.
This innovative business enterprise Dragons Den Work-Based Learning initiative is neatly integrated into the BSc Medical Physiology course in HSB. Inspired by the popular TV show, the Dragons Den industry assessment is an inclusive initiative involving 15-minute student group presentations showcasing their business vision, unique selling points rooted in scientific knowledge, revenue strategies, and effective presentation techniques. From student, staff and industry feedback, this assessment unleashes creativity and hidden skills to produce a transformational experience.
This innovative approach bridges the gap between industry and academia through a solid interdepartmental collaboration. Established partnerships such as Buhlers UK Ltd and Miicare Ltd offer monetary prizes and internships, underscoring the module's commitment to enhancing student engagement with industry.
It aligns with UEL's 2028 vision, aiming not just to prepare students for careers but to cultivate inquisitive minds to tackle industry challenges by enhancing students’ a spectrum of skills, including employability, creativity, research, communication, knowledge, critical thinking, management, and reflective acumen.
This presentation will discuss this initiative and its evolution over the years through an iterative process involving staff reflections, student feedback and collaboration with CASE.
