Developing critically reflective practitioners: Inclusive, practice-based learning strategies for students and educators
Critical reflection enables learners and educators to interrogate their beliefs, recognise power dynamics, and act with greater awareness and intentionality. Anchored in Brookfield’s longstanding scholarship on critical reflection (2019) and Ferdman et al.’s (2021) work on inclusive leadership, this session highlights the role and importance of reflective practice in shaping equitable, practice-based educational experiences. This session also aims to unpick how to authentically develop critical reflection skills in our students through our pedagogical choices and session design. Participants will engage in short reflective activities designed to model student-facing strategies and will gain practical tools for fostering reflective capacity and inclusive thinking in their own teaching contexts.
